Meghan Sources A Courrèges Coat From The ’60s For Her Baby Shower In NYC

The big question in showbiz this week? What has been going on during Meghan’s trip to New York? The Duchess of Sussex arrived in Manhattan at the weekend for a five-night stay to attend a baby shower thrown for her by close friends. A spot of culture (via the Met Breuer), lunches (the Surrey Hotel) and some ritzy dinners (the Ralph Lauren Polo Bar) have thus far peppered her itinerary in and out of the Mark Hotel on the Upper East Side.

For the latter evening spent with Serena Williams, Jessica Mulroney and Markus Anderson, Meghan flashed smiles at paparazzi wearing a rich navy Victoria Beckham coat that enveloped her seven-month bump, black Tamara Mellon boots and one of Stella McCartney’s signature chain-embellished bags. Business as usual in the wardrobe department, it would seem.

Earlier in the trip, however, Meghan stepped into uncharted style territory: vintage. The former Suits star wore a Courrèges Haute Couture black trapeze coat in matelassé silk, circa 1965 and sourced by William Vintage. With Le Specs shades and a roomy dove grey CH Carolina Herrera tote bucking her penchant for small cult handbags, it was a Stateside Meghan that the paps were snapping.

Details of the main event – which was hosted by Canadian stylist Jessica Mulroney and also had actor Abigail Spencer and designer Misha Nonoo on the guest list – are scarce, but sleuths across the Atlantic have reported that NYPD barricades were installed outside the Mark Hotel for security. The delivery of flowers, a crib and an orange tree were also recorded. The shower was organised to precede with a royal visit to Morocco from February 23-25 – the final overseas engagement the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will make before they become parents in April.
