This week it is more vegan ‘propaganda’! Easily the most opinionated piece I have ever written, here is ‘Ditch the Dairy’.

What do you have for breakfast? Cereal? Me too. The cereal goes into the bowl first and then the milk goes on top, the volume determining whether you eat a crunchy or a soggy meal. Every morning. On repeat. Unfortunately the crunchy or soggy debate will have to wait, it is dairy’s turn today.
For most of us, dairy is an intrinsic part of our lives, not just our diets. You go over to a friend’s house for a cup of tea and a chat; the first question is “milk and sugar?” Then there’s the cheese plate at your cousin’s wedding, not to mention 1am pizza with your besties. Indeed, it seems that dairy is essential for socialising! The New Zealand Ministry of Health states that water and milk are the best drinks for young children and children are taught this in school in a variety of ways. There is the free milk for schools programme, ‘healthy diet’ posters on the classroom walls and don’t forget the ignominious food pyramid which boldly instructs us to have two to three servings of dairy a day. Cheese is especially popular! Many countries seem to have a compulsory ‘five a day’ quota for cheese. Cheese toastie, cheese rolls, mac ‘n’ cheese, cheesecake, cheese pizza, gratin, fondue, cheese on toast, cheese, cheese, cheese… Of course we eat it, we need the calcium from it, right? Not to mention all that protein. Calcium… protein… calcium… protein… We robotically consume dairy every single day, on repeat, with the same justifications… Calcium… protein…
From the very beginning we are indoctrinated into believing that we need to consume dairy products. It is an incredibly institutionalised belief. Just consider for a moment, what if this belief is unjustified? What if I told you that it is simply flat out wrong? Many of you live in developed, non-dictatorship countries and you may find it difficult to comprehend that we are lied to every single day of our lives. Unfortunately that is the truth. Our lives are imbued with the slander of the dairy industry, the invisible dictators. We are lied to from the moment we enter this cruel world to the moment we leave it.
Let’s go back to basic year nine science: our bodies work best in a neutral or slightly alkaline state. Dairy however, is an acidic substance which disrupts our naturally balanced bodies. Calcium acts as a counteractant, neutralising this extra acidity. Where do we get this calcium from though? Well, believe it or not, our bones are an excellent source of the element. Yes, calcium is actually leached out of our bones in order to neutralise the extra acidity from dairy consumption. This leaves our bones feeble and far more favourable to fractures.The Nurses’ Health Study showed that dairy consumption increases the risk of fractures by fifty percent! It is no coincidence that the countries with the highest dairy consumption also have the highest rates of osteoporosis. Before we started to even toddle around the house we were told that we had to have a glass of milk a day to keep our bones strong. Can you believe the irony?
Another science lesson: lactose is the sugar in dairy. To break down lactose we need specific enzymes, known as lactases. People that do not have these enzymes, or enough of these enzymes are described as ‘lactose intolerant’. An amazing 75% of the world’s population is lactose intolerant.
Not content with weakening our bones, dairy is also linked to autoimmune diseases, asthma, multiple sclerosis, type one and type two diabetes and many cancers! Contrary to popular belief, only 5-10% of cancers are genetic, the rest being caused by other, external factors, such as diet. Consuming dairy has been proven to increase the risk of cancer that is related to your hormones, ie, ovarian, breast, uterine and prostate cancers. Indeed, dairy can increase a man’s risk of getting prostate cancer by 34%!
Furthermore, it has also been suggested that dairy could play a role in Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and even autism! Why oh why do we continue to poison ourselves with this deadly, so-called ‘nourishment’?
Ever heard of casomorphins? To put it simply, casomorphins are an opioid and are in the same family of drugs as morphine. No, I haven’t gone off on a tangent, these drugs are actually in dairy! Casomorphins are produced by the breaking down of casein protein. A whopping eighty percent of the protein in cows’ milk is casein protein. That’s a hell of a lot of casomorphins. Similar to morphine, casomorphins have an opioid effect, attaching to the same receptor in the brain as heroine! Yes, dairy is literally addictive. It seems that we are all drug addicts. When making cheese, most of the water is removed from the milk, resulting in an unbelievably high concentration of casomorphins. This is what makes cheese, in particular, so addictive.
On one hand, I was one of the lucky ones – I never liked the taste of milk. Just the thought of drinking a glass puts my stomach in knots. Being raised vegetarian on the other hand, made me dependent on cheese. In all honesty, I love the taste of cheese. Melted, as a sauce, in a sandwich, on crackers… Any way I could eat it, I did. However, the lack of animal welfare in the world persuaded me to become vegan at the age of 17. Yet, every time I tried, to give it up, that cheesy crack beckoned me back – addiction is strong. Eventually, I overpowered my master, my ethics overcoming the addiction and I have now been ‘clean’ of coagulated cow pus and chemicals for six months.
I can hear you asking, if cheese, milk and yoghurt are as bad for us as I am saying, why does the government tell us to consume the products? Why does this multi-billion dollar industry continue?
Well, that’s just it. The dairy industry is worth a hell of a lot of money and there are many people involved. Eighty percent of antibiotics sold in the US are sold to animal agriculture, supermarkets make money off these products, drug companies have a huge stake in the business too with over four hundred and fifty drugs being administered to animals. That is why the indoctrination continues, that is why we are marketed carcinogens. Money! All is money. All is greed. The research has been around for decades so they know about the disease. They know about the cancer and they know about the sheer cruelty involved in the industry. Can you believe that our children are indoctrinated into believing that they need to consume carcinogens to stay healthy?! Get ‘em young and they’ll be consumers for life. Every dollar spent on milk is a dollar into the pockets of murderers. These criminals aren’t negatively affected. They only gain from the situation. Up there in their mansions, they are safe, living in their material world. They are protected by a castle of golden bricks and a portcullis made of coins. The rest of us suffer.
Every time you buy a pot of yoghurt, a bar of chocolate, a block of cheese or a carton of milk, you are funding an industry that prides itself on killing its consumers. Think about your own health, be selfish! Don’t give money to a genocidal group of plutomaniacs.
