Eight hospitals in the NHS have been named affected by the outbreak of the bacterium listeria. This bacterium is normally found in food. It causes a slightly rare disease called listeriosis that is very dangerous to people with weakened immune systems e.g(babies and pregnant women).
This outbreak of Listeria has been linked to a specific packed sandwich that has been supplied to these NHS trust by a food supplier called “The Good Food Chain”. This outbreak has already claimed the lives of five patients.
The health secretary has already ordered a review of hospital food in order in order to stop the outbreak from developing into a worse situation.
