Biref Information of Stellite Alloy 6 (Stellite 6)

The professional Stellite Alloy manufacturer – Shenyang Top New Material Co.,Ltd, since its inception in 2001, and after many years of development and growth, the company is now playing a leading role in stellite alloy manufacture industry in China.

Stellite Alloy 6 is the most widely used cobalt base alloy and exhibits good all-round performance. It has excellent resistance to many forms of mechanical and chemical degradation over a wide temperature range, and retains a reasonable level of hardness.

Particular attributes are its outstanding self-mated anti-galling properties (which result in its wide use as a valve seat material), its high temperature hardness, and a high resistance to impact and cavitation erosion.

The alloy is ideally suited to a variety of hardfacing processes. It has less tendency to crack than Stellite 12 in multiple layers, but is more wear resistant in abrasion and metal-to-metal or galling conditions. It can be turned with carbide tooling. Stellite 6 is used on valve seats and gates; pump shafts and bearings, erosion shields and rolling couples. It is often used self-mated.

Stellite Alloy with Various Grades

As a special engineering material, Stellite Alloy has been widely used. It has excellent performance in high temperature resistance, wear resistance, cavitation resistance and corrosion resistance, but the performance of alloys of different grades is also very different. Some grades of alloys are designed for a specific purpose. When used, the grades must be carefully selected to achieve superior performance. The main properties and uses of various types of stellite alloys are summarized as follows:

1. Stellite 7, 8, 21, 37, 208, 250 and 251

Reinforced with elements such as molybdenum, nickel and niobium, these seven alloys are all low carbon alloys. Although their room temperature hardness is low, it will be improved after cooling, and it has extremely high temperature corrosion resistance, thermal shock resistance, high temperature strength and best ductility. Commonly used in gas turbine blades, brass molds and extrusion dies, Stellite 208 is specifically designed for forging dies, Stellite 250 and 251 are used exclusively for various parts in the furnace.

2.Stellite Alloy 6 , 306, 506

These alloys have moderate carbon content (0.5%~1.6%) and are less ductile than stellite 7, 8 and 31. They are generally 1% at room temperature and have a slightly higher hardness (HRC 43), but they have good wear resistance and high temperature resistance. These alloys are used as castings and also have thermal shock resistance. Therefore, they can not only be used as sealing surfaces for steam valves and chemical valves but also parts for contact with hot steel and hot scissors. Stellite 306 is a cobalt-based tube wire commonly used to repair hard-faced coatings on parts subject to thermal shock and mechanical shock. Stellite 506 is also a cobalt-based tube filament with the same hardness as the stellite 6.

Stellite Alloy Using in Textile Industry Widely

As a matter of fact, the Viscose Staple Rayon Fiber Cutter Stellite Alloy Blade is one of the cobalt alloys. With special chemical composition, it is widely used in textile industry. We control the core technology to produce this kind of cutter blade through powder metallurgy. Corrosion resistance and wear resistance of this blade are better than other material. We have various specifications of stellite alloy blade which can be provided for customers according to their requirements.

It is known to us that stellite alloy blades are produced by a range of different processes, including wrought or hot forging, hard-faced deposit, powder metal, and finally, casting. It’s more difficult to machine and grind than a steel blade. Therefore, high-performance processing equipment and specialized machining tools are required. As usual, it is machined by grinding instead of cutting.

Sytop Stellite Alloy 3 applies to the production line which produces viscose staple fiber and we have built cooperation with several big manufacturers around the World. The cutter blades are consumable products and life-span is about half a month for each blade. we are more flexible and superior sales service. What’s more, free samples for customers that we supply can be tested. Our factory guarantees the high quality.

Sytop Cobaltalloy has been committed to researching and developing the Stellite Alloy 4 for more than 20 years. We can produce high quality cutter blade with powder metallurgy and control the cost to give a favorable price to our customers.

Sytop Stellite 12 (Stellite Alloy 12)

Stellite Alloy consist of complex carbides in an alloy matrix. Their exceptional wear resistance is due mainly to the unique inherent characteristics of the hard carbide phase dispersed in a CoCr alloy matrix.

Stellite Alloy 12 Saw tips are made of Stellite alloy in grade Co12,so the following information is all about Co12.

Stellite 12 can be considered as an intermediate alloy between Stellite 6 and Stellite 1. It contains a higher proportion of hard brittle carbides than Stellite6 and has enhanced resistance to low angle erosion, wear and severe sliding wear while maintaining reasonable impact and cavitation resistance. Stellite 12 is typically used to self-fit or run Stellite 6 or Stellite 1. Higher tungsten content provides better high temperature performance than Stellite 6, and can be used at temperatures up to about 700˚C.

Stellite 12 is typically used in cutting tools that need to withstand wear, heat and corrosion. Examples include industrial knives for cutting carpets, plastics, paper and synthetic fibers; and see the skills of the wood industry. It is also used in the beverage industry’s control panels, pump blades, bearing bushings and narrow neck glass mold plungers; and for surface hardening of engine valves, pinch rolls and rotor blade edges in the metalworking industry. Corrosion resistance The typical electrode potential in seawater at room temperature is approximately -0.3 V (SCE). Like stainless steel, Stellite 12 is primarily corroded by pitting mechanisms, rather than by general mass loss in seawater and chloride solutions.

We can manufacture Stellite Alloy 3 according to your drawings and demands. We can produce rectangular, triangle, specical-shaped saw tips .and we also can manufacture saw tips of U.S.A. standard and Europe standard.

Application Fields of Sytop Stellite Alloy

Shenyang Top New Material Co.,Ltd is a professional stellite alloy manufacturer, Stellite Alloy display outstanding hardness and toughness, and are also usually very resistant to corrosion.

Stellite Alloy 3 is a family of completely non-magnetic and corrosion-resistant cobalt alloys of various compositions that have been optimised for different uses. The alloy currently most suited for cutting tools, for example, is Stellite 100, because this alloy is quite hard, maintains a good cutting edge even at high temperature, and resists hardening and annealing. Other alloys are formulated to maximize combinations of wear resistance, corrosion resistance, or ability to withstand extreme temperatures.

Typically, a Stellite part is precisely cast so that only minimal machining is necessary. Stellite is more often machined by grinding, rather than by cutting. The alloys also tend to have extremely high melting points due to the cobalt and chromium content.

Typical applications include saw teeth, hardfacing, and acid-resistant machine parts.

Stellite has also been used in the manufacture of turning tools for lathes. With the introduction and improvements in tipped tools it is not used as often, but it was found to have superior cutting properties compared to the early carbon steel tools and even some high speed steel tools, especially against difficult materials such as stainless steel. Care was needed in grinding the blanks and these were marked at one end to show the correct orientation, without which the cutting edge could chip prematurely.
